“Casita Rocio” lies 700 metres above sea level in a secluded and quiet valley in the Serrania of Ronda, between Ronda Town and the original Roman settlement site of Ronda la Vieja. The surrounding area is cultivated farmland – olive groves and vineyards, with seasonal crops of wheat and sunflowers.
The original house has recently been converted to offer guest accommodation, with its own access, and use of garden and pool (and WIFI). Entrance to the guesthouse is via a recessed patio, with rattan furniture, overhead fan and automatic awning, giving shade from the morning eastern sun.
A spacious hall leads off to salon/dining room with a woodburning stove, comfortable seating, television, dvd player and music centre. Access via an archway to a double bedroom, with ample cupboard space. A second hall leads to 2 single bedrooms, linked by archway and with separate entrances. The bathroom is also accessed from the second hallway: containing a whirlpool bath, overhead shower, bidet, wash unit and w.c. The kitchen is very well equipped with many cupboards and working surfaces: a 5 burner gas hob, electric oven, microwave and even a pizza oven.
The lawned garden has borders and fruit trees, with comfortable garden furniture. The pool terrace, with sunloungers, is entirely enclosed, giving absolute privacy. There are 2 pergolas, one giving shade to the large dining table and the other to the large gas-fired barbecue and outdoor sink unit. The 8 x 5 metre pool has steps for ease of entry.
A cot and highchair are available.
The elevated mountain position of the property ensures that even in the height of summer, the temperatures do not soar to the extremes of the coastal area or inland plateaus. Actually, in the winter, we get frost, however the property has full central heating and logs are provided for the woodburning stove for the cooler evenings.
The farm is bounded on two sides by rivers: there are no close neighbours, only the owner living adjacently, who has dogs and horses. Access is easy via a level track – no need for a 4x4.
This is the place to escape the stress of modern life – no railway lines, motorways or city lights – traffic is local. No bars, supermarkets, nor discotheques – activities in this locality are outdoor – hiking, riding, cycling, paragliding, rock-climbing, bird watching and flora and fauna exploration.
The air is pure, the sky dazzling blue and at night the stars are brilliant: birdsong is the predominant sound. “Casita Rocio” offers comfortable accommodation, with the luxury of a pool and garden, in an area of outstanding beauty and pure tranquillity.
Ronda:
Even without its unique position, a town straddling a gorge with spectacular views of the Serrrania mountain range, Ronda would still attract visitors for its wealth of architecture. The old town features Roman and Arabic ruins as well as beautifully restored Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings. Arab baths, palaces from 14th-18th century, a cathedral church formerly a mosque, all contribute to invite and delight the traveller. Not to forget one of the oldest and most beautiful bullrings of Spain: the Feria Goyesca bringing a host of celebrities each September to the town to see the spectacle of senoritas in 18th century costume, being transported in horsedrawn carriages through the cobbled streets for the bullfight. Museums abound, from the fables of the famous Rondeño bandits to the history of its wine production – Ronda was famed throughout the Roman Empire for its wine, a reputation which is being re-established.
Ronda has so much to offer and will not disappoint her visitors.
Activities in the Area
