Frigiliana is a very pretty and historically interesting mountain village which is situated in the Eastern Axarquia. This unique holiday destination with its close proximity to the sea (15 mins),the Sierra Tejedas and the Sierra Almijara, with their wealth of walks to suit all fitness levels, is popular with both walkers and beach lovers from all over the world. Yet the village still retains its original Moorish charm.
A wander round the old quarter involves a remarkable meandering up and down narrow streets with bars, restaurants and little shops selling local crafts, wine and cane honey.
In the old quarter of the village, tucked away down a cobbled alleyway, sits this charming and quirky house. There is no passing traffic so it is beautifully quiet and secluded yet a host of bars and restaurants are just a stroll away.
The village plays host to many festivals and fiestas too numerous to mention but the following are three popular ones.
Easter:-a traditional religious festival with atmospheric candlelit processions around the stepped cobbled streets.
The "Three Culture Festival" (held around the third week in August):- celebrating the Christian, Muslim and Jewish heritage of the village in a musical and culinary extravaganza.
Xmas and New Year:-
If you want to get away from the traditional hectic Xmas this is the place to be. Xmas Day can almost pass by unnoticed!
New Year is celebrated on the main square with the locals. Grapes, cava, live music and dancing in abundance. If that's not for you then just chill out on my terrace with a bottle of cava and watch the fireworks display.
Casa de Jules has been renovated using traditional methods and materials therefore retaining its rustic character, and offers a sweeping vista from its roof terrace, the kitchen and sitting room windows.
