La Azohia is considered by many to be the most beautiful location on the Costa Calida, tucked beneath mountains, enjoying a unique micro climate with crystal clear waters. Visit the lovely traditional fishing village of La Azohia for a taste of real Spain at its best...

When heading South from the great stretches of beach around the Mar Menor lagoon, the coastline becomes increasingly mountainous with just occasional isolated coves & once south of Cartagena the scenery becomes ever more stunning. About 10 kilometres before the now bustling resort of Puerto Mazarron there is a turning off the main road to the beautiful fishing village of La Azohia, at the most easterly point of the Gulf of Mazarron. The mountains finally recede behind a promontory called Cabo Tinoso, giving way again to vast stretches of beach which go all the way to Puerto Mazarron & beyond. The village is in a truly beautiful location, still closely bound by a backdrop of dramatic scenery before the gulf deepens further inland, which not only protects it from easterly winds but, perhaps more importantly, from further development. This really is a magical place.

The beach at La Azohia is gently shelving with shallow, warm waters & a beautiful new palm-lined promenade stretching two miles ensuring a memorable evening stroll along the sea front as the sun sets across the bay. Much prized by the Spanish the sea here is considered amongst the clearest in Spain & has been granted blue flag status for many years with the deeper waters at Cabo Tinoso known by divers far & wide for their colourful sea beds & by the local fishermen who still bring in their daily tuna catches to the quaint marina.

El Pinar nestles behind lovely mature villas in the exclusive San Gines district of La Azohia on the lower slopes of the mountain, on what was pine forest. It is in an incredibly quiet & peaceful spot yet just a five minute walk through lovely residential avenues to the best part of the seafront & several restaurants. It was the first (& is likely to be the only) development of its kind to be allowed here & is built in traditional Andalucian ‘pueblo’ style in order to be totally in keeping with the surroundings. The community is already taking on the air of a village withing a village with its little winding paths & private gardens & has proved very popular with families looking for self catering holiday accommodation where children can play safely. Equally it has already become a firm favourite with couples & retired parties who especially appreciate the peaceful location & breathtaking scenery whilst having many attractions nearby. It stands on the front line yet in a quiet location on the most southerly corner of the community with glorious elevated & completely uninterrupted views right over the village to the quaint marina where at night you can see the twinkle of lights as the sun sets over the bay. Whether sitting out on the sunny terrace off the lounge or making full use of the huge private solarium, with its traditional stone BBQ, tables, chairs, sun loungers, pergola & shower, the open views from La Casita are quite unsurpassed on this already much sought after new development.

Furnished to the highest of standards with leather corner seating & traditional Spanish solid wood/rattan furniture finished in a cool blue you will find this a most welcoming holiday home. Everything has been thought of to ensure your comfort including all-important comfortable beds with deep pillows & the thickest Egyptian cotton towels. Unattached on three sides the property is especially bright & airy with ducted air-conditioning & central heating for year round living.

The apartment and area were just as described, if not better, and we had a really nice holiday. We certainly hope to return in a few years possibly with no kids in tow, and spend a couple of weeks just chilling out on the roof terrace enjoying a glass of red and the fine views. The apartment was really nice and welcoming, extremely clean and well serviced. The service by Jane Harris was excellent as well. All in all a really nice time and already it seems a long time ago! Again a fantastic holiday. Would recommend area and place to anyone.

Master bedroom - top quality king size bed, bedside tables/lamps, two double wardrobes, chest of drawers, beautiful co-ordinating furnishings, bedside rugs, hairdryer, alarm clock, free safe. Magnificent open sea view.

En-suite bathroom - bath with shower over, basin with lighted mirror /shelf over, loo, bidet, shaver point, heated towel rail, bathroom scales, storage trolley.

Occupancy Notes:
We feel that in order to enjoy a property at its best it should not be unreasonably over-occupied and that bedrooms are for sleeping in & lounges for living in! For this reason there are no sofa beds. La Casita is intended to be your home & not just somewhere to sleep. However, we do have a guest bed suitable for use in the master bedroom which will accommodate a child or young adult (7th guest) & which is available at our discretion depending your party make up & availability (it is shared with El Mirador).

Flights to Murcia - 45 minutes drive:

Best prices for popular holiday periods with the ‘low cost’ airlines will be obtained if booking as soon as timetables are published. If your chosen flights are not available yet, register with the airline’s website to receive emails which should include advance notice of release of flights – then book as soon as possible. Book the best accommodation first with a deposit then book your flights when available.

Taxi Transfers each way (can be arranged) approx 65€ Murcia. Car hire recommended.


Local Facilities/Attractions

The area is famed for its excellent scuba diving & has several top class diving clubs. Fishing is also an active sport with all the provisions available locally. Opportunities for watersports are plentiful & there are showers on the beach along with a snack bar. There is a limited selection of good restaurants & bars in La Azohia itself, in the next village of Isla Plana & extensive facilities in the bustling port of Mazarron just ten minutes drive away. Spa facilities are available at the 4* Azohia Hotel just 10 mins walk away & the internationally recognised spa town of Archena at the gateway to the beautiful Ricote valley, with its fantastic thermal hydrotherapy pools open to the public, is just over an hours drive inland. The area provides wonderful walking in the local hills or the Sierra Espuna natural park inland. For cultural excursions the town of Cartagena with its ancient port & Murcia with its magnificent Baroque cathedral should not be missed. Both have El Corte Ingles department stores for those with shopping in mind. In the north of the region can be found many ancient towns, including Caravaca de la Cruz, one of the five Holy Cities. There are also many colourful markets & fiestas. There are several golf courses nearby including the famous La Manga Club just 30 minutes away.

With so many attractions just a short drive away but with a quite unique haven of peace to return to you really do have the best of all worlds at La Azohia...

Terms:

£100 per week deposit on booking, balance 8 weeks prior to departure. Deposit refundable only if subsequent booking obtained. A damages deposit of £150 to be included in the balance but repaid after the holiday when the property has been checked. Payment by cheque or bank transfer. A booking is not confirmed until receipt of the completed booking form & deposit - although we may agree to give first refusal on request. Only those included on the booking form will be permitted to stay & beds made up accordingly - if you wish to add to your party this must be with our agreement. The oldest adult in a party must be over 30 years old. Families preferred - single sex parties at our discretion. Access is usually from 4pm on the day of arrival to 10am on the day of departure. Personal travel insurance must be taken out by all guests.

Included in price:

welcome pack, arrival/departure clean, bed linen & towels (including velour beach towels), support contact, free use of cot & highchair, full info pack including your own Murcia travel guide. Bookings of two weeks include a mid stay linen change.
