Canillas is the ideal base for walking and exploring. The natural spring from the mountain attracts people from far away due to a belief that if the pure water is drunk, illness is prevented. For eating in the village, the Bodega, with 2 huge pots outside, serves excellent food in the bar or the restaurant. The Sociedad also serves full meals or tapas. There are various other bars which can be found throughout. The village also has a good medical centre and a dental practice, a flourishing school and a town hall. The village has its own municipal swimming pool that is open to all (small charge) in the summer months and is situated 7 minutes walk away.
Casa Salamandra is ideally located as a "get away from it all" type of break, ideal for those of you that enjoy nature, photography, painting or writing. It can also be used as an excellent base for those of you who are keen to purchase your own Place in the Sun or for visiting other areas such as Granada (1.5hrs) or Seville (2hrs).
The lower slopes below the village are devoted mostly to the cultivation of olives, almonds, grapes, oranges and lemons with all kinds of vegetables growing in the valleys, whilst the wild and rugged mountainsides above are partly covered with firs and have streams rushing down over the rocks and waterfalls.
