Casa Fluvià is a fully remodeled 18th century stone village house in the Alt Ampurdan near the Costa Brava. With four large bedrooms (3 doubles and 1 twin), the house can accommodate up to 8 guests in great comfort, and conserves dramatic period features such as exposed beams, columns, arches and vaulted ceilings. There is a charming sun room with views of the mountains (approximately 30 km away) and a terrace for whiling away those warm evenings.
The house is located in Torroella de Fluvià, a typical agricultural village just 5 km from the Costa Brava, a friendly and convenient location in which to enjoy village life and pleasant walks in the surrounding fields and countryside. Nearby Sant Pere boasts a number of good local shops (butchers, bakers, and several shops selling local produce) as well as a weekly market and a supermarket.
There are several excellent local restaurants in nearby villages and a range of places to eat in Sant Pere to meet different needs, tastes, and budgets.
Nearby attractions
Torroella, which takes its name from the nearby river Fluvià, is close to some the most attractive and least crowded beaches of the Costa Brava. A favourite is Sant Martí de Empuries, with five small coves and a Greek breakwater. Its maritime walkway offers a view of the Roman ruins of Empúries and extends as far as the fishing town of L’Escala. The impressive Sant Pere Pescador beach is just down the road. If you prefer to search out a secluded cove there are several protected natural areas nearby along the coastline free from the pressure of mass tourism. One such area is the Montgri just south of l'Escala and another is Cap de Creus, the easternmost part of continental Spain, where the Pyrenees run down to the sea. The road to Cap de Creus runs through the popular coastal village of Cadaqués and passes by Salvador Dalís residence at Port Lligat.
The Dalí museum in Figueres is just 15 minutes away from Torroella, while Girona airport is 25 minutes away.
At any time of year there is plenty to do in this rural area dotted with medieval villages: markets to visit, local festivals, Roman ruins, churches and monasteries to see, good country cooking, great walks, bird sanctuary, sporting activities of all kinds. If you feel like some city life, Girona and Figueres are just 20 mins away or you can even take a train to Barcelona for the day.
Family
For those looking for activities for the children after a day on the beach or a visit to a seaside two, L'Escala is just 10 minutes away and Roses a little further. There is also a small local "Family Fun Park" in nearby Vilacolum with mini-golf, a swimming pool, and a bouncy castle, etc.
Walking, Cycling, Bird Watching, Archeology
The list is too long to include here, but this lovely area of Girona is a great place for anyone interested in hiking (great coastal walks and hill walking upriver on the Fluvia not to mention the Alberes and Salines ranges), bird watching (nearby bird sanctuary and nature reserve), cycling (on and off road), and the archaeological sites at Empuries and Ullastret.
