Roda de BaraRoda de Bara is a seaside resort situated on the Costa Dorada (Golden Coast) in the region of Tarragona. Situated just 20 kilometres north of the city of Tarrgona, Roda de Bara enjoys an excellent location to explore the coast and local region. With its golden, sandy beaches, marina and attractive town, Roda de Bara is an excellent choice for family beach holidays.
About townRoda de Barra is a typical fishing village, Mediterranean-style, with attractive village houses, cobbled streets and pretty plazas.
Like many towns and cities in Tarragona, dates back to the Roman occupation, when it was an important communication point for the region.
The Romans left their mark on the town, with the Arco de Bara, or the Triumph Arch. Located in the old Via Augusta, it’s a remarkable monument, with a huge presence.
There are many other cultural attractions in the town and surrounding region. It’s an excellent destination to explore Catalan culture and the history of Tarragona.
Roda de Barra offers ample amenities with supermarkets, shops and an excellent selection of traditional bars and restaurants.
BeachesThere are several beaches in the local area, ranging from long stretches of golden sand, to small secluded coves. You can find water sports facilities on the local beaches, as well as restaurants, showers and toilets.
GastronomyThe coastal province of Tarragona favours seafood in its gastronomy. A speciality used in conjunction with many local dishes is Romesco Sauce, made with olive oil, hazelnuts, almonds, sweet peppers, onions, garlic and tomatoes. It’s mainly served with fish, but is also delicious accompanying meat dishes.
Other specialities of the region include Arrs Negre – rice boiled in cuttlefish ink, Rossejat – a rice or noodle dish made with fish broth and calamars amb xocolata, or chocolate squid. Tarragona is renowned for its white wine production; look out for the Tarragona wine denomination when selecting a wine to accompany your meal.
ClimateRoda de Bara enjoys warm blossom filled springs, long hot summers, autumns of golden sunlight and mild winters with some rainfall,
