Playa de PalsPlaya de Pals, or Platja de Pals, is a small beach town found on the Costa Brava, in the Girona province of Catalonia. The medieval village of Pals is just 10 minutes drive inland from the beach resort.
The beach of Playa de Pals is one of the best along the Catalonia coastline; a rare stretch of fine golden sand, entirely different to the typical bays and coves that are well-known to the Costa Brava.
Playa de Pals is an ideal destination for families and couples looking for a relaxing beach holiday. As it is centrally located on the Costa Brava it is also ideal for exploring the rest of the coast and the Girona Province.
About townThere are few amenities in Playa de Pals itself, which is essentially a beach with a handful of shops, bars and restaurants.
To experience a typical Catalan village, then you only need to head 10 minutes inland to Pals itself, which is steeped in history and culture. During the summer months transport is offered between the village and the beach.
For more amenities and facilities then head to the local seaside towns of Sa Punta or Estartit, or the inland town of Begur.
BeachSurrounded by sand dunes and with a 3.5 kilometre stretch of fine, golden sand, Playa de Pals is a perfect beach to sunbathe, relax, run, or have fun with the children.
There is a selection of beach and water sports facilities including volleyball, children’s scooters for hire, windsurfing courses, boat and diving trips and kitesurfing. As the stretch of beach is so immense even during the busy summer months you will always find a nice space, away from the next family. There is even a nudist stretch if the fancy takes you.
The beaches all throughout this region are picturesque and you could visit a new bay or cove every day of your holiday if you wished.
What to doTake a trip to the inland towns of Pals or Begur to learn more about the Catalan culture and history. The city of Girona is just over 30 kilometres away from Playa de Pals and is an absolutely delightful city, full of character, and best of all, not so big that you can’t get the most out of a day’s visit.
There is a golf course just outside the resort, and if you enjoy outdoor pursuits, there are plenty of nature routes for walking, hiking and cycling excursions.
Eating outThere are restaurants and snack bars lining the beach where you can enjoy a delicious plate of fish, or a traditional paella made from the locally-grown rice. For a better selection head to the neighbouring towns or take a drive up to Pals village.
ClimateThe hot summers in Playa de Pals are cooled by gentle sea breezes. The rest of the year is generally pleasant with mild autumns and winters.
