A well equipped, modern, 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment, situated in the small fishing village of Bolnuevo, just 5 minutes drive from Puerto de Mazarron, one of the main resorts on the Costa Calida. The property is built into the hillside and catches the sun throughout the day and has stunning views of both the mountains and sea from the large terrace of the property. The apartment is 15 minutes walk from the beach.
Bolnuevo has one of the best beaches along the 35 km stretch of the Bay of Mazarron and it has a European Blue Flag. It is famous for its unusual rock formations, where winds, water and time have eroded the rocks to form fantastic figures, and to the west of the village there are many kilometres of unspoilt coastline, which are popular with walkers. The village has grown into a holiday resort that is very popular with those from other European countries, as well as Spanish families, and you will find that English is widely spoken. It has 2 supermarkets, shops, a chemist, restaurants, bars and cafes for your everyday needs. The area is relatively unspoilt when compared to the more popular Spanish Costas, and as such provides an excellent location for a peaceful holiday.
The climate of the Costa Calida boasts around 300 days of sunshine each year, with very low rainfall and the area between Puerto de Mazarron and Aguilas to the south, is one of the driest in the entire Iberian Peninsula.
Puerto de Mazarron, which is approximately 2 miles from Bolnuevo and just a short car journey, is a very busy working town and Spanish resort. It has benefitted by recent investment from the EU and as well as its many Blue Flag beaches, it has a beautiful new marina, which houses a number of yachts and boats. It also has a fine palm fringed promenade, a good selection of shops, 5 large supermarkets, a vegetable and fish market, a medical centre, chemists, plus many bars, cafes, restaurants and night clubs. Activities include watersports, sailing, boat excursions, fishing, tennis, walking and horse riding.
The small Spanish town of Mazarron lies 3km inland, and for centuries silver, copper and iron were mined in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The mines are still visible today. The town is dominated by the remains of the 15th century Velez Castle. Tomato, olive, and almond growing and fishing are the main sources of income for the area. There is also a large new Mercadona supermarket which is the nearest one to the apartment
Alicante Airport is approximately 80 minutes drive, Murcia San Javier approx 50 minutes drive and Almeria about 80 minutes drive (directions supplied upon booking)
Almost all the beaches in and around the area boast the European Community “Blue Flag.” Bolnuevo beach is one of the most delightful in Mazarron, having a long sandy beach, which shelves fairly steeply into the blue waters. There are many beautiful small beaches and coves in Puerto de Mazarron, which shelve gently into the sea and are ideal for both children and adults.
The bus station is to be found adjacent to the indoor market in the centre of Puerto de Mazarron. Buses run to Cartegena and other towns in Murcia. There is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill near the camp site in Bolnuevo for buses into Puerto and back. For details of train and bus timetables, please visit the Tourist office in Puerto.
The main tourist office is situated in Puerto de Mazarron, in the centre of the town, in the old bandstand building, opposite El Arbol Supermarket.
Sunday Market in Puerto de Mazarron
The market is open from 9am until 1.30pm every Sunday, the stalls sell clothes, shoes, handbags, household items and fruit and vegetables. There are two café stalls at either end of the market. It is situated in the centre of the town, at the foot of the Hotel La Cumbre, near the bus station. It is the largest outdoor market in Murcia.

Sensol/Camposol Golf: a 9 hole or 18 hole golf course (par 72) set amid an imposing backdrop of Murcia’s stunning mountain ranges, only 15 minutes from the apartment.
Condado de Alhama: An 18 hole, par 72 Jack Nicklaus signature designed golf course (Polaris World) situated near Alhama, some 25 minutes from the apartment.
Hacienda del Alamo: one of the largest golf resorts in Spain designed by Dave Thomas Ltd. It is a par 72 course and is situated about 40 minutes from the apartment.
Mazarron Big Guns – The Gun Batteries of Castillitos
These massive batteries were part of the shore defences for Cartegena, which is the headquarters of the Spanish Mediterranean Fleet. They are situated high on the top of a mountain at a fortress built into the mountain side between the bays of Mazarron and Cartegena. Although the access road requires careful driving, they are well worth a visit, and the drive to the guns is a spectacular one. There are no toilet facilities. It is well worth visiting the pretty little harbour of La Azohia on the way back.
Cartegena was founded in 223BC by the Carteginians and it is a major naval base and often has Spanish naval ships in port. It has wonderful historic buildings, a naval museum, sea walls, a castle, a church that was formerly a 13th century cathedral, a submarine and a new yachting marina. It is approximately a 45 minute drive from Puerto de Mazarron over the mountains (very scenic) or 25 minutes on the motorway from Mazarron town.
Lorca is another historic city, which dates back to Lower Paleolithic Period. It was later settled by the Romans and the Moors. It has many outstanding monuments. These include noble mansions, palaces, churches, a Moorish castle and a Roman Column.
Founded in the year 825, Murcia is a modern city. It stands on the banks of the River Segura and its most outstanding monument is its cathedral. It also has many religious buildings, palaces and museums. Also of national tourist interest are its religious festivals, which are held throughout the year.
Aledo and Sierra Espuna
This is a very old Spanish hill top village, with fantastic views from 800 metres up in the Sierra Espuna. If you drive through Aledo keeping to the left at the fork driving through the narrow streets on the one-way system, you will come to the town square. Park here then you can walk to the 13th Century Tower. Sierra Espuna is a National Country Park where you can see sightings of birds of prey, including eagles, goshawks, owls and wild boar, wild goats, wild cats and small mammals. It is very scenic with mountains, pine forests, steppes, rivers, and high dams and offers excellent walking. There are at least 10 signalised footpaths of a small route type.

There is no through traffic and Bolnuevo has a very large beach. The apartment would suit a couple/family looking for a quiet time and a stress free holiday. There is a local English speaking person who looks after the property, just a phone call away.

For the comfort of our guests, there is a strict No Smoking policy, both inside and outside on the terrace of the apartment.
A "meet and greet" is included and you will be met by our host who lives near by with keys and shown around the apartment. There will also be a phone number given in case you need assistance during your stay. A cot is available on request and also a small welcome pack can be provided should the need arise.
